4 Basic Differences between FUT & FUE Hair Transplant

The hair root extraction is the first and foremost important job in the hair transplant procedure that allows a surgeon to collect a desirable number of grafts if patient possesses a good donor supply to fulfill the expected needs of a hair transplant procedure.

Scientifically, it has been proven that there are two techniques applicable in the restoration world, namely, the FUT hair transplant & the FUE. Both these techniques are applied by the hair restoration Surgeon as according to the state of hair loss, the patient’s need and condition as well as the donor supply that can fulfill the expected goal of the surgery. Generally, the hair transplant cost is decided by the applicable technique and hence the role of extraction weighs a top place in the hair transplant world.

The technique is used after a careful assessment of the patient’s scalp condition that tells a Surgeon regarding the feasibility and suitability of a particular method for a particular case. Therefore, it is a matter of careful decision of a performing Surgeon that which one is suitable for a specific case of hair loss and vice-a-versa.

There are 4 major differences between FUT & FUE hair transplants are described below:

  1. Scarring: In the FUT hair transplant, there is only a linear scar results as a linear incision for taking the strip that is sutured well with the advanced closing technique, named, the Trichophytic closure, which heals quickly and gives almost invisible scar. In the FUE hair transplant, a Surgeon is bound to make multiple circular punches, which leaves many round scars after the procedure and raise a case for revision hair transplant that are further corrected by the FUT technique.
  2. The Technical Aspect: The FUT hair transplant is only performed by the expert plastic & cosmetic Surgeon as the careful incision and advanced suture requires an extreme precision of surgical skills to deliver the best results. But, the FUE hair transplant can perform by the untrained technicians or salon person also because it doesn’t require any specific surgical knowledge that may go wrong in most of the cases. However, the technical expertise is mandatory for FUT hair transplant and hence offers the best outcomes both in terms of surgical as well as artistic concerns.
  3. The Possibility of Multiple sittings: The multiple sittings are possible with the FUT hair transplant and more than 2 sittings are quite possible for a long and thin strip harvesting, whereas in the FUE technique, there is chance of hardly two sittings possibility as the multiple punching decreases the donor area capacity to offer the desired number of grafts.
  4. The permanent result Possibility: The FUT hair transplant always gives the permanent hair roots because the extraction is only done from the safe donor area of the scalp, i.e., the back & sides of the scalp that contains DHT-resistant hair roots only. In the FUE hair transplant, a Doctor can target the hair root extraction from the area other than scalps such as chest, beard, mustache and armpits. Therefore, the permanent result confirmation is suspicious in the FUE technique.

In the nutshell, we can say that the FUT technique is a better option for restoring the hair as it offers the permanent hair roots that lasted forever and confirm the aesthetic goal of a hair transplant surgery.
